Katie Holmes starred in Dawson's Creek from 1998 to 2003. She was born in 1978.
Ergo, she was 20 when she started!

You were not "dumb" but just going with the fantasy! Most "teen" actresses are older. The only "young one" I can think of who playes her own age is Sarah Ramos.
